The Museum Building
The museum is housed in the “Clerks' House” which was built in 1892 by the Baron's officials and was considered the largest and most magnificent in the Land of Israel at the time.
Of the Teachers' Union. Here Ussishkin and the representatives of the colonies rejected Herzl's Uganda plan during the Sixth Zionist Congress in Basel in 1903.
During World War I, the Turkish authorities turned the building into a military hospital and mosque. When they left the country, the building returned to be used by the people of the colony as a committee house and later as the elementary school of the colony of Zichron Yaacov.
Home renovation
The house was renovated in the 90s of the 20th century and as part of it, the architect Shimon Shapira made sure to preserve the original building envelope and even restore the impressive entrance doors.
The museum spaces have been rebuilt in an original and challenging architectural language.
Donor Ted Arison dedicated the museum to the memory of his grandparents, Moshe and Sarah Arizona, who were from the founding families of Zichron Yaacov.
Museum designer Uri Abramson chose a minimalist and symbolic artistic language to tell the story of the period.
